Trip Itinerary

Arrival Day

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where a friendly Safari Expert representative will warmly welcome you. From there, you will transfer to your accommodation at Lindrin Lodge in Moshi. Relax and enjoy amenities like the swimming pool and Wi-Fi. In the evening, attend a briefing with experienced managers to help you prepare for your climb. Overnight stay includes breakfast.

The day begins with a scenic 50-minute drive to Machame Gate for registration before heading to Umbwe Gate. From here, the trek starts with a steep ascent through dense rainforest, filled with towering trees and vibrant vegetation. After 5 to 7 hours of trekking over an 11-kilometer trail, you will arrive at Umbwe Camp, surrounded by thick forest.

Leaving Umbwe Camp, the trail becomes rockier with sparse vegetation as you climb higher. Along the way, glimpses of Mount Kilimanjaro appear in the distance. The terrain flattens as you approach the Barranco Valley before descending through the unique Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp. This day covers 6 kilometers in approximately 4 to 5 hours.

The day starts with a descent into a ravine at the base of the Great Barranco Wall. Climbing the nearly 900-foot wall is challenging yet non-technical. Afterward, the trek involves navigating hills and valleys before descending into Karanga Valley. A final steep climb leads to Karanga Camp, which is slightly higher in altitude, allowing your body to acclimatize. This shorter day is ideal for rest and preparation for the next stages of the trek.

From Karanga Camp, the trail joins the Mweka Trail junction before continuing on a rocky path leading to Barafu Camp. As you complete the Southern Circuit, you will enjoy spectacular views of the summit from various angles. After reaching Barafu Camp, dinner is served early to prepare for the summit push. The stunning peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are visible from this camp.

Summit day begins around midnight, the most demanding part of the climb. The ascent is made in darkness under extreme wind and cold, requiring both mental and physical strength. After several hours of trekking, you will reach Stella Point at 5,760 meters, just in time for a stunning sunrise over Mawenzi Peak. From here, the final effort to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point, is rewarded with breathtaking views and a moment of celebration.

The descent begins immediately, with a stop at Barafu Camp for lunch before continuing to Mweka Camp. The rocky downhill path can be tough on the knees, and trekking poles are recommended. Mweka Camp, located in the upper forest, provides a celebratory last dinner and a well-earned rest.

The final descent through the rainforest leads to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates. Afterward, you will be transferred to Mweka Village and then back to your Moshi hotel for a relaxing evening.

Start your final day with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Check out by 11:00 AM, though late check-out options may be available for an additional charge. Reflect on your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure as you prepare for your journey home.
