Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an incredible adventure, but having the right gear is essential for a safe and comfortable experience. Because the climb passes through several climate zones—from rainforest to alpine desert and the freezing summit—proper packing is extremely important.
Kilimanjaro Packing Strategy
Climbers normally carry two types of bags:
- Duffel Bag: Main bag carried by porters (15 kg limit)
- Daypack: Small bag with essentials for daily hike
Base Layers
- 2-3 moisture-wicking shirts
- 1-2 thermal base layer tops
- 1-2 thermal leggings
Avoid cotton clothing because it holds moisture.
