Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam - Nyerere National Park + Evening Game Drive

Your journey begins early in the morning as you drive from Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park. The scenic drive takes about 5–6 hours and passes through small villages, palm trees, and beautiful landscapes. Upon arrival at the park, you will check in at your lodge or tented camp, where you will be welcomed with lunch and a short rest.

In the late afternoon, you will go for your first evening game drive inside Nyerere National Park. This is the perfect time to spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas, and lions preparing for their evening hunt. You may also see the rare African wild dogs, which are one of the highlights of Selous.

Return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing night by the campfire, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

After an early breakfast, you will begin a full-day game drive in the vast and untouched wilderness of Nyerere National Park. The park is huge—bigger than Switzerland—so every game drive feels new and exciting. You will explore different habitats, including open plains, thick forests, and the famous Rufiji River ecosystem.

Animals often seen include elephants, lions, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, elands, hartebeests, and many bird species. Selous is also known for having one of the highest concentrations of wild dogs, so keep your camera ready.

You will stop for a packed lunch at a scenic picnic spot inside the park, enjoying the fresh air and peaceful environment. After lunch, continue with your game drive until late afternoon before returning to the lodge.

Relax at the lodge, enjoy sunset views, and have a delicious dinner before another peaceful night in the African wilderness.

This morning you will enjoy one of the most exciting activities in Selous—an early morning boat safari on the Rufiji River. This river is the lifeline of the park and attracts hundreds of animals every day. From your boat, you will see hippos swimming, crocodiles sunbathing, and elephants drinking along the riverbank. You will also spot many colorful birds flying over the water and resting on the trees.

The boat safari gives you a close and safe way to enjoy wildlife from a completely different angle—an experience you won’t find in many other parks in Tanzania.
